We're on a lake lot. Does that change how you build a deck?
It changes material and design. Constant moisture and shade are hard on wood, so composite is usually the better long-term call, and railing and layout get planned around the view and the grade rather than dropped in as a standard rectangle.
Our house started as a seasonal cottage. Is that a problem?
Not a problem, but it means planning for the unknown. Decades of piecemeal work leave surprises behind walls and under floors. Having opened up a lot of these houses is what keeps those surprises from becoming budget blowups.
